Makoma House has become so much more than I ever pictured when I first started dreaming this up.

I opened our first store in St. Charles in 2024 at 24 years old with a lot of ideas, a very specific vision, and absolutely no idea how much I was about to learn. Since then, the store has grown and changed right alongside me. I’ve changed my mind a million times, rearranged the store probably even more, found our style, built the sweetest little team, and somehow watched this idea turn into a real community.

Then came Chicago.

Opening our Wicker Park store in 2026 was one of those pinch me moments. Seeing Makoma House exist in two completely different spaces, each with their own personality but still feeling so us, has been really special.

I still handpick everything that comes into the stores, probably overthink every little detail, and get way too excited when a new collection starts coming together. I want Makoma House to feel like your cool friend’s closet. A mix of pieces you’ll wear forever, things that feel very right now, and the random find you didn’t know you needed until you tried it on.

It’s crazy to think this all started as an idea in my head and now I get to watch people walk through our doors in St. Charles and Chicago every day.

Very much still figuring it out as I go, but that might be my favorite part.
